I am new to the entire concept of using forums.
I recently bought a 95 GMC sierra c1500 single cab.
Yesterday I was driving on the highway and the check engine light came on.
I pulled over turned off the truck, and started it again. When it started it seemed to struggle to start; however it started.
So i turned the truck off, and tried again - this time no start at all.
It was not making a clicking noise. I tested the battery (which is 3 months old) and nothing wrong there.
I checked my fuses in the engine compartment and one of the two Ignition Fuses was blown (40Amp).
So i borrowed a 50amp fuse from the Lighting fuse, just to see if it was the fuse.
When i tried to start the truck, it blew that one with one try.

My guess is that it is the starter. Went to AutoZone to price check a new starter and some fuses. The guy told me it could be possible that one of the positive wires that connects from the battery down to the starter has melted. He said that there is a hook above the exhaust that holds this wire and if it has come lose and that wire has touched the exhaust, that could be my issue. I am going to take the starter off this morning and then check the wires.

I was curious if anyone has advice on my issue, or has experienced this before. It is a fairly new truck to me and I don't want to run into any major issues. I hope this is all electrical and nothing mechanical. Please advise!

Welcome to the club.
I haven't seen a melted wire before, but it should be easy to check visually.

The fact your check engine light came on right before has me thinking that it could be something else. Have AutoZone pull the code and see what comes up. I know they can bench test your starter too, and it's not too difficult to drop those.

I would visually inspect all the main electrical connections for corrosion and tight contacts (battery, starter, alternator) before dropping the starter. I've had starter solenoids go out and the starter is still good, which the bench test should tell you as well.

I'm not great with electrical stuff so I'm sure some other members will have suggestions.

Do the 95s have the OBDII port? I think that's all autozone can scan for because otherwise the scanners aren't universal. Probably worth buying one yourself though and seeing what the exact code is...I didn't see where they sold them at the autozone site, but amazon has this http://www.amazon.com/Equus-3123-GM...1376682639&sr=8-7&keywords=obd1+scan+tool+gmc

Thank you! I was able to find the wire and it is what was actually preventing the truck to start! The wire was corroded from sticking to the exhaust. Temporary fix was some electrical tape and zip ties to keep it away. Check engine light is still on but truck runs great. Gonna have it check out and the code tested . Thanks for your help!!
