I have a 1997 Chevy tahoe with roughly 197,000 miles on it and recently started to experience my check engine light flashing off and on. I figured it was misfiring which it was so I went to my mechanic and he pulled my plugs out only to find out he said I am in need of a new engine soon. He showed me my plug and it looked like it was chewed up a little so he replaced that plug with a newer plug but the same result; my check engine light was still on. I am not knowing am I in need of a new engine or a rebuilt engine any suggestions for me. Its the 4th plug on the left side that is messing up.

If I do need a new engine or rebuilt engine and if anybody is in los angeles any suggestions on mechanics that do a good job and dont try to rip you off.

I did run the codes and I was getting a misfire in plug 4. I undid my battery hoping maybe to reset it the check engine light, it worked for about 30minutes then came right back on, I need to get a smog check but can't do it because. I am more worried about my engine and am I going to need to get a new 1.
