We got together with my brother on Sat. and decided to "test" the Suburban out. I have to admit, I'm pretty pleased with the monstrosity. We followed my brother's Land Rover almost everywhere he went. Only one obstacle that I chickened out on: a ditch. I watched my brother's LR nearly drag his rear bumper pulling out of the ditch and was just too afraid I'd get down in there, lay that rear hitch on the ground with the wheels hanging in the air, and be done for the day (sometimes, you just have to know your limits). Other than that, it pulled through the mud just fine, navigated a pretty narrow trail, and did so pretty comfortably. The biggest "liability" might have been she who was riding shotgun: my wife cringed every time we would squeeze between a couple of trees, afraid we might scratch the paint beyond recognition :)

Very nice. Glad to hear that you had a good time. Nothing like getting into a little bit of dirt, mud and trees every once in a while.
The suburbans are pretty handy in the offroad capacity, I play occasionally off road with a buddy with an H2 other than the shorter wheelbase advantage I think its a pretty fair game.
For us, the Suburban was always the trusty and dependable vehicle that let us get into an area, carry us and all of our gear, and then get us out safely and comfortably again. We could tow an ATV, motorcycle, jeep or whatever other vehicle we wanted to destroy and then know that we could still get home. :p
