Hello out there,
Bought a 2000 Yukon 4X4 with only 60,000 miles on it. Seems like a nice truck,
but exhibits some slight gear whine( seems to be coming from front end?) from
about 40 to 55 mph. More noticable when you put your foot into it. Was told this
is inherent in the design and not a problem. Anybody out there heard otherwise?

I've heard the same thing about whining GM rear gears. But I've also had trucks that never made a noise. From experience setting up the gears on axles you have to make sure the wear pattern is just about perfect. Which means lots of trial and error with shimming. With 60k on the axle the gears have probably got an off set wear condition. This doesnt mean imediate failure of the axle but it does present an annoying whine.
Repair would be replacement of the gears and proper set-up.
