I've adjusted the parking brake shoes per the manual, but I still go all the way to the floor on the parking pedal. The parking brake does engage enough to hold the vehicle. However, I'm used to having a little reserve in the parking brake pedal.

Is there anotheer adjustement that I am missing?

no, and you probably should not even done what you've done. parking brake is made that way. all the way to the floor, no resistance, and just enough to hold vehicle. my silverado is excatly the same way, and i have researched the issue for long time, until i got the same answer. i think they made it keeping in mind old debilitated ladies.

The PB on my 2001 suburban is exactly the same as well as my 2006 silverado. Now with my 87 blazer, there is a cable adjustment (rear drum brakes) and pedal only goes half way to the florr and is tight.

The clearance between the park brake shoe and the rotor is 0.6604 mm (0.026 inch).

Park Brake Pedal Adjustment

Important: Before you adjust the park brake, verify that the park brake shoes are adjusted to provide a clearance of 0.6604 mm (0.026 inch) .


  1. Verify that the equalizer nut is tightened to 3.5 Nm (31 inch lbs.) .
  2. Fully apply and release the park brake pedal 3 times.
I have little resistance also while pressing down until i'm about 3"s from the floor then i can "feel" the brake engaging then pressing on to lock the brake.

this is the "normal" operation for the PB
