Looking for some help guys before I start replacing unnecessary parts and wasting time and money. So the truck on occasion twice in the last month has failed to start, all the lights and instrument in dash turns on like normal but the truck doesn't crank or make any type of starting attempt. I've had the battery tested by 3 different places and they'e all said the battery is good and had one auto parts test the battery, alternator and starter while the truck was running and they said the parts check out good according to their hand held diagnostic equipment... When the truck failed to start on the occasions I was able to start it by jumping it. Someone has said it was the starter after hearing that comment just for some additional input. Thanks for your time. It' greatly appreciated!!

Well first thing is you'll never find an intermittent problem when it's working correctly. At least I haven't been able to.

The most likely candidate is your battery cables. Remove them at the battery and clean the posts and clamps with a wire brush till they're nice and shiny. If you remove the negative first and reconnect it last you won't have any arcing when doing the positive.

If this fixed it congradulate yourself. If it didn't then do the other ends of the battery cables. Let us know either way.

I'll give that a try. I did it a couple weeks ago with baking soda but I only did it on the terminals that connect to the battery
baking soda will not help wire brush helps . shine those connections up..

next what can happen is the solenoid of starter is worn down .
when it fails to crank have a person hold key to crank position then grab the small solenoid wire at starter and try to move it .. I have had this type issue on a 2003 2500 6L truck ..

I would start with the start relay. Its in the underhood fuse & relay box. above the left fender. Next I would check the ignition switch start power. If you have a manual trans check the clutch pedal switch, or with an auto the park neutral switch. Its very helpful to have wiring diagrams . Good Luck.

Looks like that bolt has been beat around a bit ne'er the threads...long shoulder like that, other than in the accessory area... I can't place, but if you are talking about a 15mm head size and not shank size...that would be about right for the accessories area.
