I am contemplating attempting to install a 454 engine and trans from a 79 suburban in my 89' 3500. my truck has a 5.7 that burns some oil and is having trouble shifting into 3rd thus the swap. Has anyone done this or know what I will need off the other truck? Am I beter of rebuilding or replacing my 350?

Probably better off with a reman 350. Depending on the state you live in smog laws will dictate if you can legally swap in the 454.
A carefully built 350 can put out almost as much torque and horsepower as a 454, while returning better fuel mileage.
But if your set on the 454 it can be done. You'll need new engine mounts, a new trans mount, custom rigged throttle cable and shifter, and the wiring harness will have to be modified because you going from a computer controlled engine to non-computer.
Advanced Adaptors carries a lot of the parts you'll need.
