Lost all gears 40l60e, Any ideas if the whole tranny is shot or possibly just the torque converter. I pulled the codes today, all of them ABS.

B0281 ABS Stop Lamp Switch Circuit.

B0265 Electronic Brake Control Module Circuit

Bo223 Right Front Wheel Speed Signal Erratic (have a chaffed wire going to the wheel hub)

Thinking the B0281 May be part of the problem but still wondering what is fried.

I am prepared to buy a rebuilt tranny and converter and install it, but would first like to try and test that I need a tranny and not a converter change only. I also need to test the circuit issues.

Please help with any advise. More Details Below..

My 02 Z71 1500 ext cab has about 60,000 on the tranny that was rebuilt by a local shop. About 2 Months ago I started to get a surge of rpms 200-300rpms at 40 mph,
1200 rpm light load (it only would happen in this range). It felt to me it was the converter locking and unlocking. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the MAS Air flo Sensor and the Evap Purge soleniod. The problem disappeared for a week or so (most likley because I was not driving in the range it was evident). The surge soon resurfaced, I could also hear the drive shaft loading and unloading which again made me think it was the torque converter. I basically ignored it out of frustration (stupid me)

Last week after Hurricane Irene hit us here in new york My trailer brake controller LED illuminated bright red, as if hooked to a trailer and braking. I unplugged it thinking I had gotten water into the 7 pin harness due to all the water I was Driving through on my way home during the storm.

Two days later I am driving up a hill and the engine revs to 3500-4000 Rpms and I completely lost the tranny. Nothing in PRD321 Except I can get any gear for all of 5 seconds when I first start it up cold.

Welcome to the club. I would pull the trans pan and look for things that shouldn't be there (metal & clutch pieces).

Thanx, I definitely will be pulling it, I just didn't want to yank it it before doing anyother testing that should be done while its in the truck.

Any body have any advise on the electrical side of things, I disconnected every fuse to have to do with the brakes and the controllers light just stays on. I am starting to think the controller went bad "coincidentally at the same time" I just want to make sure I fix any underlying problems before I replace this tranny.

I also checked the fluid level today with the truck off and running, it did't change on the dip stick, seems it is definitely not pumping.

Any good advise on buying a rebuilt unit. I was looking at buying from the local chain auto parts store as they are a little cheaper and come with a converter than say a level 1 or 2 from a performance rebuild shop, they also seem a little over kill for my needs on this truck,,,daily driver, no real towing every once in a while I through a my atv or some lumber in the back.

Thanx

Over kill on a transmission never hurts. Whats there warranty?

The only thing that I can add is the transmission codes - what are they? Those codes take special equipment that the dealer or trans shops have. Other than that, the pan has to come off. The clutches failing come to mind, and SilveradoTrailblazer has the right of it - check the pan for debris. What is the warranty on the transmission?
