My 1989 4x4 chevy front axles turn but doesn't lock to turn the wheels. I have been told some kind of sylnoid under by transfer case but not sure. I don't even know the name of this part or if that might be the problem.. Please Help
There should be a vacuum sylnoid attached to the front axle that engages the front 2 wheels. I would check the lines going from your transfer case to that sylnoid. I have also seen them with a mecanical linkage. I belive that a line from your tranfer case goes to a diaphram ( probably located under your battery tray) then to the sylnoid. My wife's blazer had the same problem and it was caused by the soft rubber on the diaphram having a small cut in it. It would not hot the vaccum. Hope this helps.
