5.7 Vortec Supercharger

I installed a Procharger supercharger on my old 2000 Silverado 5.3. A word of caution: A supercharged engine runs hotter so you need to install electric radiator fans and eliminate the factory fan. Also plumb your intake through a cold-air system, purchase larger than stock injectors (I went from 23 lbs/hr to 46 lbs/hr), get the biggest intercooler that is available and get it professionally tuned. One last thing, maybe just buy a newer truck. I spent $10,000 + on mine (I did the labor) and could have spent more. It never ends. Have fun!!

Thank you for the response. I’ve no interest in a new truck. I absolutely love GMT400 Suburbans. I’ve heard I want to find a supercharger that will give me low and mid range boost like a roots or twin screw charger over a centrifugal that gives top end boost? What kind was the Procharger you used?

I’d characterize it more of a belt driven turbo that spools up through a gear box. The Whipple or Magnuson will give you instant torque. My 5.3 (I didn’t get a stock baseline) dyno’d (RWHP) at 336 hp and 340 torque. It was quick for a 1/2 ton 4x4. It had 4.10 gears so low end torque was enhanced.
