If I remember correctly you need the earlier model fenders and splash apron. You can keep the existing radiator support, headlights, and hood.
The fender forward edges dont match up exactly and the splash apron sits lower on a 90 model truck.
Depending on grill manufacturer you might need to trim the back of the new grill to clear the headlights if you stick with the 90 style lights (which in my oppinion would look cooler because no one else uses those lights with a Phantom grill).

So the trimming would be necessary if the 90's fenders and apron were on or changed? I am not afraid of having too much grille to work with only if it is too small to modify.
How about the grille for an '87, as there is one for that year as well.

Regardless of fenders used the grill needs trimming on the backside because the early model headlights are recessed a little more than the 90 models.
