By searching these forums I discovered a link to a really good wiring diagram. What I found was an amplifier under the drivers seat that was staying hot, even with ignition off and radio fuse pulled. That was the source of static with engine off, and loud whine running. Should cure overnight battery drain too I hope. Time for an aftermarket radio I think.

Its dead battery again this morning, now I'm stumped. Something still draining overnight. I'm a good mechanic but electrical is not my forte.

The best way to find it, is to disconnect the neg battery cable, insert an amp meeter in series with the battery and the removed cable. The meter should be reading a current drain. Start pulling fuses, one at a time until one fuse drops the current draw by a large percentage (a number of fuses will change the current draw by a small amount). The fuse drawing the most current is powering the system that has the problem.

Just a note, after pulling each fuse, reinsert it so only one is out at any time.

my old 94 burb would have a low battery daily for a while but would start if I started it the next day.... So one night forget why I was in the truck and noticed the light up in the passenger side sun visor mirror was on.... adjusted the viser so it hit the button properly and bamn... nailed it. check that out because I was getting really frustrated not being able to figure out why...

YUP, that happened to my 99 burb. The little tab that holds the plunger switch in had broken off both of the visors, And the dang bulbs do not come out. I had to take the visor mount, trim shroud, and headliner loose at the "A" pillar and unplug them. This went on for a month or more for me AND the guy I bought it from. Yeah, I bought it from a friend.:p I finally noticed llight leaking out from behind the mirror one dark night. I have to keep the dome light override on DARK because the plunger switch on the driver's door is broken, and I haven't gotten around to fixing all the small stuff yet.

Another thing someone hinted at that might be a problem; After I drive for 1/2 hour or more, and try to start it again before it cools off, it acts like the battery is really low, but what it is, about every month or so, I have to go in and wire (steel) brush both battery cable ends and the battery terminals. It's those d#% side post batteries. The tiniest bit of oxidation and the connection goes south, especially after the engine bay gets hot.

what a pain in the arse to unplug it Dana W... and its not something you would notice unless the visor was down and not up in proper position...

the other problem I had on that truck was the underhood light not going out... i fixed this first before the visor thinking I had it figured out. the tab was bent so I bent it back and broke it off lol... had to screw it back on. that truck had a trouble light that was pretty cool. I should have removed it before selling it. it would come in handy sometimes.

All good points.
My personal experiences have usually been a corroded tail light bulb connection or headlamp connection causing drain. Worth checking all bulbs for corroded sockets and such. That was on British cars though. Been a long time since I had an issue.
That click sucks. Worse is nothing at all. Been there too often my friend.
Of course it could be something completely different, but the free checks are always free, and top of my list.
