i have a 95 chevy 350 with almost 200k miles. i have been losing a lot of oil and its not leaking from anywhere that i can see. suggestions? i had intake gasket problems but got that fixed and im still losing oil. its in spurts sometimes its a quart a day or a quart a week

Hey RedneckGirl, long time no see. Check the oil sending unit when they go you will loose oil. Also do you see and smoke out the exhaust? Has this just started?

i havent noticed smoke but everything under the truck past where the exhaust is broke is black

Sounds like your valve seats are doing the typical chevy thing and going bad. if you start it when it is cold does it shoot out a puff of blue smoke.. and what brand and grade of oil are you running?

no smoke when i start it in the mornings. it has a lot of black carbon coming out of the exhaust but my cat has come apart on the inside so i figured thats where its coming from. everything under the truck is black past the exhaust.

You did not say whether it is 2WD or 4WD. If it is a 4WD, some models have an aluminum adapter that bolts to the block, which changes the mounting angle of the oil filter to allow clearance for the front drive shaft. There is an o ring type gasket between the block and adapter that is prone to leakage. This has been the source of the "mystery oil leak" on a number of Chevy 4WD trucks I have seen. If that is not the source, it could be a leaking rear main seal.

It is 4wd. If it was leaking that much out of an o ring though wouldn't I notice spots under the truck? I look everytime I park and there is never any oil spots. The rear main does leak but not enough to where it leaves spots just enough where u notice it when you get under the truck to change the oil.

Definitely! One quart of oil would make a slick 4 feet in diameter on your floor. Don't ask me how I know this
Your engine must be burning it. It could be pulling it through the valve stem seals into the combustion chambers, (valve stem seals went bad on mine at 100K miles & they've been known to fail at fewer miles than that) or it's getting past the rings into the combustion chambers & burning it. You could pull a few spark plugs to verify.
