Here's a question the truck I'm having problems with is a 99 gmc k1500 5.7 vortex it ended up being the crank bearings it chewed up my crank pretty good well here's the question I have a 93 Chevy gmc with the 5.7 but it's carburated so I was wondering if I could take the heads and intake off the 99 and put them on the 93 block and use it in my 99 and have it bolt up to my 99 transmission it has the 4l60 or whatever in it also the 93 is 2wd and my 99 is 4x4 please let me know all info that would need to be done to make this happen thank you

Ok thanks and one more question with the 99 it has a crank sensor and the 93 doesn't I know the 99 it helps the timing or whatever know will this be a problem not having it? Or does the 93 have one, a buddy's friend told me it will matter but I haven't found nothing out about it on other sites and thanks for the info

You will need the crank sensor or else you will get an engine light and possibly a missfire. And i talked to my buddy and yes you can swap all the stuff to the 93 block. I'm not sure how the crank sensor mounts on those. maybe just swap over the pulley on the crank cause you will need the pickup on it for the sensor

Here's a new question for you guys I awaited a 5.3 out of a 01 Chevy 1500 for 200 bucks off my buddy I was gunna rebuild it and put it in my dad truck but I got a thinking could I put this newer 5.3 into my 99 gmc k1500 Without having to fab motor mounts and how about the tranny bolting up

The 5.3 is an LS engine. It is a total different animal than a 5.7 L Vortec. Although the trans will bolt up. None of the engine control system is the same between the two. It would be very easy to swap the 93 5.7 L. as the engine blocks are the same.

You can put the 5.3 in you just need mount adapters. If you can harvest the pcm and harnesses out of the other truck it makes it much easier. I don't know if these are the righ adapters for you but here is a set http://m.ebay.com/itm/271582394207
I'm not trying to offend anyone, so please don't take this the wrong way. GM has always been grate about the parts fitting from one to another. As I am sure most know, you can get a motorcycle (Boss Hoss)with a Chevy V-8 on it, proving the point that you can put nearly any engine in nearly anything you want to. The point of my reply about the 5.3 is that it would be much easer to replace a 5.7 L with a 5.7 L If you do a 5.3 then you need the computer and wiring to manage and support the 5.3 The 1993 5.7 engine block is the same block as the 1996 5.7 L is. If he uses the 1993 block and uses his 1996 top engine components,(EG heads, and all the upper section of the engine) this should be a easy swap. IMO the 5.7 L (350) is the best engine ever made, and that's why GM made it for 35 years. I would never take out my 5.7 L to put an LS engine in its place, but I know people do. When the day comes for me to do an engine swap, I will do a 383 Vortec stroker, but that's just me. Again like I said, please do take this the wrong way.

I completely agree that the 5.7 is a straight and easy swap. He asked if he could put the 5.3 in. The answer is yes he can it will take work though. He did not ask for our personal opinions. That is why I did not give mine. I just answered his question.

One concern I would have about using the older Lower end is the crank sensor. Sure you can change whatever mounting bracket is needed from one motor to the other. But I do not know what the sensor Depends on for sensing. Is there a sensing ring on the crank? Is there s detent on the crank that the sensor senses? If there is you may need to move that from the old crank to the new crank. If that is the case then getting it properly orientated would be extremely important and may prove to be a hard task
