I am sure this has been covered before, but I cannot find it. I have a 1999 Suburban with the 5.7 liter in it and I am looking for a good cold air intake. What are the pros and cons of the different ones and is it worth the money?

I've got 98 5.7 and I put the Volant on there. Pros: looks, price, bit of power bump (butt dyno only). Cons: quality design/construction (issues with the filter install being a tight fit and another issue with the design of the hold down bolts to the TB. Was so horribly designed that i could not even use the ones they sent with, I had to come up with my own solution to finish the install, have to clean/oil every 10k or so, won't give you a huge power boost if that's what you're looking for.

Pics of mine installed can be found if you look under my profile for threads i have started (look for "my simple suburban"). I'd attach here but not sure if I can...

Let me know if you have specific questions on the Volant. Happy researching, Greg

Oh, and to answer your final question: to me, yes, it was worth the money. My stock intake was restricting the engine so bad at 5500+RPM that it would shake and bog down. Not anymore :)

What kinds of Gains are you looking for by installing a CAI.......Better Fuel Mileage and/or More H.P. and do you have any other Performance Mods on your Suburban Now??

99, I have not moded aything. I was looking for a little more power and fuel mileage. Since I live in a mountain state, I would like to be able to haul a trailer up the mountain roads without having to struggle.

Get an exhust done too. It will help.. If you are going to let in more air it has to be able to get it out just as fast....and a programer will also help..As for better MPG's.... Depends on how you drive.. Power you will get a bit more noticable

Thanks everybody. USAF, your suburban looks pretty clean. What is your ASFC? I am power pro here at Hill AFB.
Small world, eh? I'm a CE Electrician by trade but right now I'm a First Sergeant stationed at McConnell.
