My wife’s mother has Dish TV Satellite system, it sucks.

Can anyone tell me what the dish charging means?

We have Direct TV satellite System, and we have never heard of this.

When she turns the system on first time everyday it says,

“Satellite Charging.”

WTF is that supposed to mean?

I know a little bit about Sat technology in general. I've never seen that message before, but it sounds like it may have to warm up the feed horns in the LNBs on the dish or something. The actual LNBs (the little things that are on the pole in front of the dish) pull power off the cable line that is being fed from the sattelite box. So, there may be something wrong with the LNB or the sattelite box. Hope this helps you start troubleshooting it. I'm assuming it's not working as a result of this message?

Yeah, I think that's the answer. I have DISH but I never have seen that message before. The LNBs really do draw power through the coax, but I've never seen it say "charging dish" before.

Hey, Jamie. I've got a question about the cable coming into my house. I have TWO cable boxes on the side of my house, what gives? I'm tempted to hook something up to them to see if anything is connected to them.

if anything just have her leave the reciever on all the time, everyone i know that has dish just leaves it on and then you have instant access to tv once you turn it on.

also, how old is her equipment. she might be able to call them and get some free upgrades if her stuff is decrepid. or she could pull the im thinking about switching gag and when they say what can we do to change your mind and she can say put in a new dish and receivers for me no charge. :great:

Good point for Fiero. I have seen people do this too. The receiver uses very little power. Good show Diceman

Melanie says she never shuts her dish receiver off. But she did say that her mother, very non tech savvy pushes the wrong buttons on the remote and it comes up with that message.

You know tv, vcr, aux, sat buttons on the top of the remote and that is when the message shows up.

Whats up with your dish now Steve?

Sun spots? Lol they give me that excuse when we loose signal on a cloud free day. And I have Direct TV.
