I have a 2005 Silverado with speaker problems. My stock stero and speakers work right about 50% of the time. The problem is that my speakers only play full treble, mids, and bass some of the times. Most of the time my speakers only play high trebles with out any bass or mids. I recentley purchased a new head unit for my truck hoping it would solve the problem, but it did not. My speakers are still only playing properly half of the time. Has any one had this same problem? or any ideas? I can not figure it out and it is driving me crazy!

Welcome to the club!

Does your truck have the Bose stereo in it? If it does, I would suspect the Bose amplifier, usually located under the center console. The fixes for that would be to either replace it, bypass it, or replace it with an aftermarket amp. Bypassing or replacing with aftermarket would mean that you would need an aftermarket head unit for it to work well. The reason for this is that the factory head unit on a Bose system only has 2 channels (left and right) and the Bose amp split the signals to the various speakers. This is also the reason that an aftermarket head unit will not have a working fade function if the amp is not bypassed.

If you do not have Bose, you do not have a factory amplifier, so I wouldn't really know where to start there.

What speakers are they? Brand? I bet the wire going between the Mid and tweeters are broken...

No it is not a Bose system in the truck, im like you i have no idea what it could be now. As far as the speakers go they are still stock speakers. I just fell like its a short of some sort. I hate everything electrical on 2005 silverado seems like there is always something going wrong.

I agree with Enkeiavalanche...look for any wires running to the speakers that may be grounding out on any metal. It could just be that the speakers are going bad. I had to replace the speakers in my sister-in-law's truck this past December. But her's didn't have the same problem that you're having. Her's were just busted from playing music with the volume turned up too high. I would just replace them with some aftermarket speakers. If you're not wanting to replace everything (Speakers and Head Unit) I would just pick up some Pioneer 6.5's...they're fairly cheap and usually they fit right into the GM speaker openings.

Please NO Pioneers... Your ears will bleed.... You will be happy with the Polks... Let us know how it works out.. Also remember just because you don't have a Bose system that does not mean that you don't have a factory amp..You might....

I thought the same thing about the possibility of a factory amp without Bose, so I decided to check the GM Service Info. for diagrams on the radios, and they do not show any amps on the non-bose systems. That's not to say they are right though, and it is probably worth a look under/behind the dash on the passenger side to check for a factory amp.

For all of the speakers to be doing this, it seems to me the problems could only be an amp, a head unit, a common ground shared by the speakers, or possibly a bad ground to the head unit causing the speakers to not be able to ground properly.

LOL....I hear you about the Pioneer's. What I should have said was these are inexpensive speakers that you can usually pick up at your Walmart if you're not wanting to drop a lot of cash. But yes the Polk will sound great. So what was the outcome? Is everything working now?

My '07 rear speakers sounded like crap from day one. I took it back, and the dealer said they sounded good (OK) to him. No help at all. Now at 80,000 miles they are totally inoperative. So much for GM quality and customer service.

very common problem is the wires going to the doors, usually the driver side, tend to break from opening and closing the doors...best solution run new wires to the doors and really youd be better off running new wires to the rears too but you dont have to. better quality speaker wire vs. stock will sound better and last longer (depending on how you run it obviously). if you do have a factory amp running new wires to the speakers will bypass that headache too. not to mention factory amps are poop.

Good luck. My '07 rear speakers sounded like s**t and I took it back. The dealer said it was supposed to sound like that. Now they do not work at all, nothing. Thanks GMC and JBA Chevrolet of Glen Burnie, Md. Another screwing by you.

One thing you can also do for testing instead of running new wires is splicing into the existing wires and connecting it to a battery. I normally use the battery on my drill. You can here the speakers pop. It does not damage the speakers at all. If the speakers don't pop then you know you have a short.

Ok kinda on the same topic, I have an 03 with a bose system in it. I want to put 2 tens under the back seat. But im trying to keep it all stock looking in the truck. Can i just run the 10's on a stand alone amp and wire it into the bose amp? Or because it is only 2 channel i will have to get a new deck? I believe the bose system comes with a small sub in the center console. (Havent been able to get confirmation but it sounds and looks like there is one without tearing it apart to find it.) Any info greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has had any problems with the bose speakers. Im debating on whether to keep them or replace them with something else.
