If you can't get your hands on shop manuals, I suggest cutting the ground wire and running a new one to a part of the chassis you can access. GM really made an effort to make the wiring as hard as possible to access didn't they?

I would expect it would ground on the dash frame, not far from the motor.

If you have intermittent operation, get a multimeter and use it to test the ground.
You can monitor it while driving.

I expect it's a bad blower motor.
