It's time for a brake job so I've been doing a little research. I came across this item about using new bolts when calipers are reinstalled. I didn't know that the caliper bolts were stretch to yield and not reuseable. I figured there might be another guy or two that didn't know them either.

And I guess it's about time I bought a torque angle gauge and a beam type torque wrench for pinions. I already have a set of click types.

Hey Ted, I think it's the caliper bracket bolts they are talking about.

And no, I did not know that; mine have been out and back in a couple of times. Once on each side for hubs and again for rotors.

Do you know if the rear are T to Y as well?

Yes they are the caliper bracket bolts. I've got drums on the rear.

Edit: Yes I think the rears are TTY too. All calipers I've seen online come with new bracket bolts but they don't say why.

I've been trying to track down what RPO JF3 is. I know that the JL4 is active for stabilitrak and traction control but I can't find JF3 listed anywhere.

After searching yesterday and this morning I decided to just pay compnine for my build sheet. $5 for 5 lookups was cheaper than driving the 120 mile roundtrip to the dealer to get it for free.

JF3 is vac power 17" 7000 lb ABS disc/drum.

I'm also replacing the hoses. I think the JL4 active control means I have individual brake lines to the rear brakes for traction control. So four flex hoses. I gotta climb under and double check. I was under there to install the airbags but I can't remember noticing the brake line layout. But that was in 2011.

And I've already found a discrepancy in the build sheet. The sheet says I have the Z60 high performance chassis pkg. The Service ID sticker in the glove box says Z85 (high payload firm ride). Sometimes you can't win for losing.

Yes Stabilitrak and Traction Control should require 4 channel. I don't remember if the flex hoses are at the diff or the axle ends. At any rate they're getting swapped for braided hoses.

Thanks, Ray. The only thing I can't source now is the braided hoses for the rear end. I can find stock and I can find braided for non-stabilitrak. I may be able to get custom from Goodridge but almost $300 just for the rear is making me rethink this.

I haven't called any of the makers yet. Russell and Crown both are staying away from Stabilitrak. I guess their legal teams are at work. That or nobody has DOT approved lines for Stabilitrak.

I have no idea but it sounds plausible. The engineers probably want higher pressure for faster brake application but it should be no different than ABS. Except that Stabilitrak is applying the brakes one at a time.

I'll find out more Monday when I can make some calls.

That's what I'm thinking, just an upscale ABS pump.

EDIT; had to look it up.

Has its own pump, does not use ABS.

ABS reduces pressure to prevent wheel lock up, ST actually increases pressure to control wheel.

There ya go!
