Hey everyone,
I was more wanting to complain than post a problem. Has anyone had problems with pumping gas with the newer (2009-newer) pump handles in California? I swear that I have to stand right next to the pump in order to make sure that it doesn't stop after a gallon or two. It doesn't matter what angle I put the nozzle in at the stupid pump stops and I have to sit there and babysit the thing. Anyone else have problems with their truck and this issue or am I just getting duked on by the pumps? Maybe the Gas gods hate me as much as I hate them.

dont fell to bad, the pumps here in Virginia do the same thing. i generally just stand there and hold it because if i set the hold open it just shuts off right away, I think its a pump nozzel thing more then anything.

California isnt the only place that has issues with fuel pump recycle systems, I have issues once in a while with pumps here in Texas that have air recycle systems, not every time probably one out of every ten gives me a work out.
Luckily here in Texas not all counties and cities require recycle systems so if a pump pisses me off I can usually drive a few miles away and find a station that isnt required to use them.

I run in to that every now and then here in Tucson...sometimes it take 2 tries before it takes off and pumps the gas til the truck is full.

I think it's all in the pump itself. I've seen it in Missouri. Usually when the pump is fast or gas takes a real big dip in price.

I'm out in the Monterey, CA area and I'm having the pump problem on my 2010. Strangly enough, I didn't have this issue on my '06 Silverado. Think it might have something to do with the design of the new body style. I've tried different companies as well, and had the same issue with every pump.

Well, my understanding of modern fuel tanks states there's a "roll-over valve" that resides in the fuel/EVAP system. That valve is supposed to, you guessed it, roll over and close off the ventilation of the fuel tank once the fuel has reached a certain level. This put back-pressure on the nozzle the shuts it off.

If your have tried multiple different gas stations and this problem is still occurring, then I would have to say it's probably not the gas pump.

Since this is a ventilation valve, it can become very susceptible to dirt & grime. Therefore, if you live off a dirt road or frequently drive through dirty/dusty areas then you may be more likely to run into this issue. I'm not sure exactly where is on your vehicle but I believe most are mounted on the top side of the tank, so you may need to drop the tank to replace it.

They felt like they were getting better for a while (I noticed that a couple of years ago) ... now it's like it's sliding back again.
