Hello all,

Since i have owned my truck i have put 2 sets of catalytic converters in it. I've owned it since 2004. The first set i bought were high-flow magnaflow's that i had welded in-place of the originals and the second was a oem fit Eastern Catalytic. I installed the newest cats 4-6 months ago. Lately I've been hearing a rattling from the front end area. While i was seeking out the problem i banging on the cat on the passenger side it sounds like the internals are loose. The passenger side has always been the problem.

No check engine lights, runs/starts fine etc.

It's a 2002 1500 Silverado 4.3l, 5spd manual with 97k miles.

Also when i changes the cats the second time i did plugs and wires.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The new cat should have a warranty.

Well starting this Wednesday i plan on tearing the motor down to the heads and replacing all the gaskets, converting SCPI to a MFI setup and new oem cats.

I'm hoping the reason for burning out the cats is the poppet valves are not closing and dumping more fuel than can be burnt off.

Also i recently developed an external coolant leak. So hopefully it's just a gasket and not a cracked intake or block.

Ill post with the results.
