it should help out some as long as you keep your foot out of it as much as possible. other things to look at would be running electric fans and under drive pully. but heres a question for you, what gears are you running in your truck?
To really be honest maybe a tad but not much. You'll get a tad bit more power and better throttle response but thats it. Even in the long run after investing your money in those items your really not going to come out to much ahead. What I've noticed with the 6.0's is its never gonna get good gas mileage.
Im sure he's running 4.10's. But ntbush is right. My 6.0 got like 3 miles to the gallon better with a chip. You'll never get good mpg's with the 6.0. I usually get roughly 12 miles to the gallon with a trailer hooked up or not. It never changes.
well i guess for the size truck the 6.0 comes in... gas is gonna suck casue it has to push that much more weight around. my cirumstance is a little different being i have a 6.0 in a single cab step side, im still getting around 17 city and 20 highway
I have an 07 VortecMax, quad cab, lifted 6" on 35's and I struggle to get better than 11.5mpg driving 75% city, 25% highway...and that is babying the absolute hell out of the throttle and coasting to stops anytime I have the opportunity...lol. I have the K&N FIPK CAI and a magnaflow cat-back. The ****ty thing IMO is that the truck is only a 4 speed automatic transmission. If it was a 5 or 6 speed I think it'd do a little better, especially on the freeway. I'm contemplating adding a programmer but I really have no idea how to properly program a programmer so I'm thinking of just taking my truck to a shop and having them tune it for me.
I have a 2003 suburban 2500 with the 6.0. I gained a good 1 mpg with an oil change. Bought it from a dealer, don't know what oil they used. I put Mobil 1 syn. 0w-30 economy oil, green lable. Made a huge difference. Syn. oil of any kind will help. I also installed a Volant cai, up to 12+ mpg not towing. I think I can squeeze a little more out but not much. Headers, cat back exhaust and a custom tune should free up some horses and increase mpg.
Walmart has 5qt. jugs of Mobil1 for $28.00. Best price I've found. I get my Mobil1 syn. trans. and gear lube from AutoZone. arinmybackpocket did you regear your truck for the 35" tires? Go with a Diablo Preditor programmer, has lots of adjustments YOU can make.
Mobil is having a special refund for buying their oil and filters at certin locations. A local Federated Auto store has it. $15 back on 5 quarts and a filter. I run syn. 7k miles. I'm a forklift road mechanic and drive a Ford van, free gas. I take it home every night. We run syn. in everything we can. If it costs a few more $ for the syn its worth it in the long run. Engine wear is cut down big time with syn. as opposed to conv. oil. Little increase in mpg and power too. A good selling point if you ever sell the vehicle. Over all I think its way better. Napa filters I'm told are made by Wix. Thumbs up. Hastings and AC filters are good too. I have an acc. through work so I just call the parts guys and they get me what ever I want at cost, put it on my acc. and its taken out of my paycheck
