Instructions to program a keyless entry remote for a Chevy Silverado. They also work on 2003, 2004 and 2006 Suburbans.

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Press and hold the DOOR unlock switch.
  4. While holding the DOOR lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
  5. Release the DOOR unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
  6. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one keyless remote. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
  7. Repeat the previous step to program up to four transmitters.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (one more click forward) position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter mode.
  9. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
If you're looking for remotes, we highly recommend GM Parts Club ... they have everything in stock and low prices to boot.

Contact them today or do a search on the GM Parts Club website for the part number (look on the back of the remote if you have one).

Can someone tell me what numbers should be on the back of the key fob for my 2004 Silverado? The one my dealer gave me is for a Trailblazer. Also..I was wondering how to find out if my truck came with remote start.

Having problem completing keyless remote programming

Hi Steve,

While trying to program a new keyless remote on a 03 Silverado 2500HD everything did as it should up to step 5, but at step 6 the remote is not able to program & does not program to the truck. It is a new remote from a Chevy dealer. Do I have a defective remote? or something wrong on the truck?

We really need a thread made for each make/model that GM carries with programming instructions. This would be great for the new wiki that's planned actually.

I know this is an old thread, so hopefully this post doesn't go unnoticed...

I'm having the exact issue that Joshua714 is having above. Everything works up to step 6 when I press and hold the buttons on the remote...nothing happens. Any thoughts?
