i am looking at painting a set of chrome rims flat black, is this possible and would it last or just flake off

I think you would be much better off powder coating them, however if you sand them and use a quality paint I don't see whay it would'nt be ok to paint them.

when it comes to something like wheels to me they have to be perfect... i would do the job right and powder coat them

If you don't powdercoat them, you will regret it down the line
Just think, these are goingto be on your truck for a while so you definetely want to do them right

I also gaurentee it will look better poweder coated

i have to agree go powder coat it will last longer but if you do deside to paint them use 1k or 2k wet sand paper itll give it a baby fine . prime and then coat with enamal paint. then clear coat. i did this on a set of vette rims i had and they still look good. which ever you deside to do they will look good. as for powder coat you can get the set up from sears or if you have a harbor freight near you ive seen it there, just got to convince your other half into using the oven.
