Ok so heres the issue I have 2008 Escalade, a few months back my cigarette outlet under the radio shorted out & the wires stripped themselves of insolation, at least as far back as i can see under the air con so I pulled the fuse , the only issue is that that fuse also controls the OBDII & I need to get my car inspected.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of where the outlet goes so i can cut the wires?

Do those wires end in a plug in the harness somewhere ?

Is there anyway to disconnect the outlet from the fuse block ?

Or can I rewire the OBDII to another power source?

I had hoped that the fuse (#5) only would affect the power to the OBD scanner & perhaps the PC could be read with a unit that was self powered, but that is not the case, apparently the fuses also powers something else related to communication, either that or the short fried something (I hope not)

The fuse didn’t blow initially it kinda melted I had to pull it. I tried to put one in to see if I can scan it real quick but it blew right away. Basically I need to find a point where the cigarette lighter leads come start so I can just clip the wires & hope they arnt melted all the way to the fuse box.

Looking at the schematic provided by xPosTech it appears that the DLC and cig ltr wiring is tied together just before the fuse box under the hood. So based on that I would say you will need another power source unless you wish to rewire that harness.
The fuse listed is labeled LTR and shows to be no. 57 (20amp) which is not the same as you indicated. You said fuse no. 5. There could be differences between your vehicle and this light duty truck schematic.

Yeah that was my bad, You are correct, on the fuse number, is there a way you could send me a copy of that dirgram ?

Do you think it would be possible to just cut the LTR lead off where it is tired into the DLC honestly I don’t have any need for the cigarette lighter.

I suspect that will be the best way as I believe the wires from the Cig ltr are now melted pretty much all the way to the fuse panel and opening up the wiring harness would be extremely time consuming and could be very complicated.
If you do reconnect the DLC a new way be sure to use a fused connection that is only hot with the ignition on. You could also run a new wire from the fuse 57 (using the correct gauge to handle 20 amps) to the DLC so as to keep the wiring as stock as possible. Your call.

FWIW. I once had problems with the lighter blowing fuses. After much searching and chasing wires. I found a dime in the bottom of the socket.
If both the hot and ground wires are melted right up to the lighter, that means that whater caused the problem was plugged into the lighter socket or the socket its self.

With that said, Wires should never melt, the fuse should blow long before any wires melt. Are you sure that you are looking at the correct fuse? Is that fuse the correct value that is supposed to be there? Now that the wires are melted and may now be shorted in many places it will be a lot more effort to get things working again. It is also now possible that while those wires were melting they could have damaged adjacent wires in the harness.
