Coolant temperature on a 94 454 [Expired Topic]
Hi everybody.
I just bought a 94 2500 4x4 with a 454. Although it looks like new and the previous owner had it maintained at the dealership, I noticed the coolant fluid was really dirty. So I flushed and rinsed the system 5 times with water and coolant flush. Unfortunately it still running a bit hot, the gauge goes up to the last mark before the 210 mark in normal driving conditions without towing. Is this maybe normal or should I check out the radiator itself?

Andy-----I too am a new owner to a used Suburban only it is a '95 2500 4x4 with a high mileage 454 engine. Unless someone corrects me, I believe your temp is normal at 209 degrees. Mine runs exactly the same as does my friend's '95 of same configuration. It is even more normal when you consider the "red" area of the temp gauge is at 260 degrees. Does anyone have the factory specs applicable to this issue?????

210 is just fine. most new cars dont kick on the electric fans until 225-230 degrees. the thermostat on your burb should open at 195 degrees and getting up to 220- 230 degrees would be acceptable on hot days or when towing up hill.
well.. in the end I had to replace the radiator. It was shooting fluid all the way to the firewall....at least it never overheated.
