2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 i have P245/70/17 tires looking to go to 265/70R17 and moving to 10 Ply i will be pulling a new to me RV that will weight between 3500lbs to about 4000lbs. are 10 ply over kill ???
looking at the Cooper Adventurer A/Ttires from Pepboys they have buy 3 get one free and a 70 mail in rebate. any opinions on these tires good or bad ??

Depends on how much towing you're planning to do. That's a fairly light load and the P rated tires should be ok, but if you're going to do a lot of towing especially on hilly or curvy roads the step up to LT tires would certainly be worth it. Of course you will sacrifice ride quality unloaded and you're adding unsprung weight with the LT tires. My suggestion would be to hold off on buying tires until you get your RV, give the old P rated tires a workout on a curvy road with your load in tow and see how they do, that might give you a better idea on how you want to move forward.

I'm in the market for new tires too. Coopers are usually a pretty good tire, but E is much more than you need. I would go with a C or D. Or if you want to stay in the P rated series, get the XL. I think standard P is too wimpy for the extra weight. You need to remember the precious cargo you are hauling around in your truck. I don't skimp on quality, or durability when it comes to hauling around my family! I have a set of P rated on my Suburban only because they were new sitting in the corner of the shop and she needed new shoes. They are a temporary fit until I decide on what to get next. They do feel ok in the canyons, but I wouldn't feel comfortable hauling a full load with them.

You’re fine with c rated, but I would look into the discoverer at/3 as well in your area. The adventurer is a pep boys exclusive but it’s identical to the at/3 other than the name and a very slight difference in tread just to say it’s a different tire. Just get the best deal you can. What does pep boys offer for warranty on them? I’ve had the at/3s on 2 trucks and they’ll be what I put on this truck once the stt pros wear out.

I have had a set of the E load ATP's on my 1999 Silverado for about 5 years and 50,000 miles. I think I picked them up for $750/4 plus mounting. Size is 285/75/16. I have hauled 7000 loads on my tandem trailer on windy roads and interstate as we move (Marine Corps). They will last until near 60k it seems. They carry the load well and handle good. I don't do a ton of mudding, but some off road use is no problem. I have yet to get stuck, which probably means I need to get dirtier!

A couple tips on the air pressure for them. I run 60psi when loaded/hauling. Works good. I run 50 empty on highway. I run 35 off roading during hunting season. They are wearing more in the center, but obviously not too much more.

Also keep them (or any tire) rotated. Just got the truck aligned after a suspension overhaul up front. It's been at least 8 years (when I bought it) since it was done. They were so close in wear that the machine gave them a 0% difference (637 vs 644 extreme spread in revs per mile). They wear very well when cared for.

Not letting me upload a pic or I would for you. Might be a tire worth considering.

I run the E tires on my 1500s for the last 15 years. They seem to hold up better for off road, last longer, and are a nice comfort on the rare occasions that I do haul a heavy load. My last 6 sets of tires have been Firestone Destination AT. I have been very happy with them.

It looks like my pirellI scorpions (LT 265 75 16) are E rated for 80 psi. I recommend these, but I read they are not great in snow, if that matters.
