My 1988 Blazer 5.7 liter calls for 10W/30 API Service SF CC Energy Saving oil. But that was 29 years ago. How revelation is that when considering modern day motor oils and older engines ? I don't know too much about how modern lubrication methods aptly to my 1988 V8 ?

I think they went to roller in 87' or 88'. And according to what I've been told all the new oil ratings supercede the old ratings and are backwards compatible. However I don't fully agree with that when it comes to engines with flat tappet valvetrains. I would probably run a zink additive in those engines with each oil change. Some people I know run diesel oil in there older flat tappet engines. Most diesel oils have a higher zink content.

I agree, and I've seen a number of suppliers like Summit Racing parts who sell 12 or 16 oz. of the additive. The California Air Resources Board
Keep upping the chemicals and fuels in a attempt to do away with internal combustion engine. In the owners manual in my 1988 Blazer 5.7 liter V8 says fuel with 10% of corn juice or ethanol, but anything past that is very very bad for not only the engine, but the fuel system in whole. I have a friend from South America, and he says all of South america uses E85. But the price of a gallon is like $1.10 a gallon, but you have to fuel up more often cause the alcohol burns so much lower you go through it faster. Ever since I came home from Vietnam, I stopped thinking what the U.S. government does is good for me.
