Exhaust Question

Hey all!

I know you all have head this question probably a billion times. But this is a billion and one. Anyway... I went down to the a local garage the other day to price out a new exhaust for my 2010 5.3. I was quoted 450 for complete stainless rebuild of my exhaust from the manifold cats back. 3 inch Y pipe to a flowmaster super 40 to dual 2.5 or 3 inch exits.

My biggest concern is the "WONDERFUL" :p Active Fuel Management the 5.3 has... Since I do a lot of highway driving when I travel the six hours back home. How annoying does the "drone" get when the truck kicks into 4 cylinder mode.

I have heard both sides. One you can barely tell anything has changed or Two the drone inside the cab can sound "industrial" like a tractor or a helicopter hovering over head.

For those of you with flowmasters what are your experiences?

its gonna sound like a 4 cyl with duals
never been impresses with flowdisaster, had them on a 4 cylinder ranger once and it sounded like crap, your better off going with a magnaflow or dynomax
Gibson was "agricultural". Dynomax is un-noticeable. UltraFlo Welded 3" in and out.
I would call some of the muffler manufactures and see what they have to say. Maybe there working on that exhaust issue with the new trucks.

X2 on what BigBlue said.
i have the dual flowmasters 40 series catback on my 2010 silverado paid $439 with install, but i have the 4.8 which doesn't down size to the 4 cyl. To be honest these are the best sounding mufflers better then magnaflow and dynomax... Everyone wants to race me when i pull up next to them :/ . But again to each there own opinion i guess, and on the HIGHWAY they are nice sounding sometimes you hear a noise that sounds like a helicopter but its not annoying. I also have a k&n intake with a airaid throttle body spacer which makes it sound even better. If r not looking for aggressive sounding exhaust go with something else like the 50-70 series they are way less aggressive sounding then 40 series and super 40. hope that helps somewhat?

This definitely helps! The reason why I am going super 40 is because I want that aggressive sound that will accentuate the sound of the 5.3L (327CI) V8... haha. The reason being is i just recently moved to the DC metro area for work and everyone and their mother has a German car (BMW or MERC). Dont get me wrong they are great cars but the guys i work with swear that not matter what nothing can match their cars a (328i and a C class) in sound, style, performance, ect ect. They talk their cars up and down and i can not stand it... its either a german car or a teen with daddies money rocking the Folgers car on some crappy 4 cylinder small car Revving it to the limiter at the stop light to show off to their friends and trying to race the big slow truck pickup truck :p. But what they dont understand you can beat the lower end torque off the line in these beasts haha. Sorry about the rant i just want to give my truck that little extra to make it sound more aggressive ya know lol.
haha man your truck will sound awesome trust me especially if you revve it and also get the K&N Cold air intake Part number: K/N63-3070 which adds 16.97 HP to your truck and then get the airaid throttle body spacer which is like 80 bucks so it sounds like a turbo when you accelerate faster and rpm jumps and that super 40 sounds like the 40 series and adds about 10-15 more hp so its like a total of 30 hp gain and to top it off, get the hypertech max energy programmer which is perfect with those mods and will add 3-5 mpg and give you 13-27 hp gain depending on the fuel you use since you have the 5.3! which will be like 50 hp gain and your truck would roar like no other trust me on that lol!
