what is the back spacing on factory 17 inch steel wheels? does anyone know?
Alston.....your Factory Alloy 17x7.5 Rims.....Have a 5.5in" Backspace, which give them a +31mm Offset....I am bumping this tread because I have some questions about factory wheel backspacing. I am running the 17x7.5 that you can see in my sig and I just bought a set of the factory 18x8 Z71 wheels. I know the 18's are a +31 offset, but I can not seem to find out what the offset of the wheels I have right now. I have very little room between my tires and my suspension(with the tires pointed straight) so I have ordered a set of 10mm wheel/hub centric spacers, but I think with the 18's those spacers will not be enough.
The Factory Alloy 18's.....are going to look Sweet on your Truck!!....love to see some pics when you get them installed....:great:As always you are spot on Mike! Thanks!
It's going to be close, what size tires are you running with now Alston??I am not thinking they are going to fit. I am having to get spacers for the 17's and due to the increased width of the 18's the same off set is going to put them touching the the suspension. I will either have to run 1" spacers and narrow tires or just try and sale them.
I agree they would look sick with the lift, but dag on +31 off set......
Alston.....the 285/70/18's.....have a Section Width of.....11.2ins....and your 295/70/17's......have a Section Width of.....11.6ins.....I know it is not a lot but the 285's....being just a little narrower should help......as Adam mentioned, with only adding a 1/4in on each side.......I think your going to be OK.....on running with the 18's.I am running 295/70r17 and would want to run 285/70r18 with the new wheels.
Alston......I would for Sure do a test fit with the 18's........if for some reason they don't fit with the size tire you've mentioned above, you could drop down a tire size......IMO it would be Worth It....for the Look your going to get from the 18's!!There is less than a 1/8" betweent the tire and the top of the UCA with the wheels pointed straight. If I hit a big dip in the road and it is in a turn the suspension comes in contact with the tire. Until today I did not know that off set was relative to the width of the wheel and that is why I went ahead and picked up the 18x8's.
Edit: I might be best off getting a tire test fitted on the 18's to see if it will work before I count them out. Thanks for the help Mike & Adam!
I had just the regular 1/4" spacer on my factory 18's running 295/70r18 and I had no problem with the upper ball joint part of the UCA rubbing at any point. However, my problem was when turned, my tires hit the front part of the UCA on the inside of the tire. If I was turing right it would rub the drivers side tire... I could go just a little over one full turn of the wheel before it would start rubbing.I am bumping this tread because I have some questions about factory wheel backspacing. I delt with the rubbing with the level kit and the 295's and I was really trying to not deal with rubbing with the 4" kit. Also I notices in another post of yours, are you going to run the Trail Grappler again, because you said you wanted the 285/70r18, but it only come in a 285/65 or 295/70.
I've been looking at the Toyo M/t also, I just love the ride of my Trail Grapplers and the noise is very minimal! I don't know if I can switch because I would be kicking myself the like of the new tires if I didn't like them.I delt with the rubbing with the level kit and the 295's and I was really trying to not deal with rubbing with the 4" kit. Yeah I have had troubles finding a tire in a 18" that I like the size and looks. I have been looking at the Toyo M/T 285/70R18. They look good, but man are they high dollar.
That would be awesome! Thanks!I've been looking at the Toyo M/t also, I just love the ride of my Trail Grapplers and the noise is very minimal! I don't know if I can switch because I would be kicking myself the like of the new tires if I didn't like them.
Sometime tomorrow I will get outside and measure my clearances with my 2" spacers. Should be able to figure out if those 10mm (.4") spacers would be enough clearance clearance on the 295's!
Just rub it in there, Adam!Tire cost is one of the reasons I decided to go lower rather than higher!
