I'm glad to see Tricia jumped up and can help you, but isn't a recall a permanent thing? I thought "limited time only" fixes were TSBs. Am I wrong in my understanding of this?

yes as I found out, However my suburban is doing exactly what the recall is about (ABS speed sensor brake chatter under 10 mph) but I guess mine is not one of the ones covered according to my VIN number.

You are correct in your understanding of recalls and TSBs. When a recall is performed it is closed in our records. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Thanks for you help but now its a mute point, The car had a total brake fail Sat. I was pulling into a spot under 10 mph at BestBuy the pedal went straight to the floor the car jumped the curb and hit the car on the other side of the parkiong island. I am very luck no one was hurt and the other car was empty all my kids had there sit belts on.

jdsdls,

Sorry to hear of your accident, my 1999 K1500 Suburban is doing the same thing (rust belt vehicle) and I had a near miss. At this point in it's life the truck is just a utility vehicle, no sport left in it and a winter beater so I don't risk the stopping issue often.

Is your's too old - like mine to be covered? I see the TSB covers 1999 Silverados but not Suburbans. I cant imagine the front brake system is that different.

Thanks for your post, I'll be calling the local Chevy dealer tomorrow and see what's up. NHTSA.gov did not have much info except an old (2002) TSB. On Google I found a document (#05068C) from GM dated 2008 that addresses the necessary repairs and covered vehicles.

I was experiencing the same behavior outlined in the recall notice (the ABS chattering at low speeds) but nothing catastropic like a total brake failure.

I called my local dealer to see if the recall had ever been done (I purchased my Suburban used before) and I found out that my Suburban was included in the recall but that the previous owner had the recall service done already. However, they agreed to look at it and they said that if it is the same issue recurring, they could still cover it under the recall. They diagnosed the problem and confirmed that it was related to the recall issue and replaced on of the front wheel sensors that was 'open' (i.e., measuring no resistance). They did all of this at no charge and the problem seems to have gone away.

I'd be pretty ticked if a problem like this resulted in an accident. Even though it only occured at low speeds, you could end up causing an accident where the other guy is travelling at a high rate of speed.
