I am going to get my first truck soon, it is a 97 silverado 4 wheel drive, extended cab. I took drivers ed in highschool and am going to get my liscence within a week or so. I think I have a B average in school. Anyways, to get to the point, the insurance company wants to charge 230$ a month. I don't have a lot of money and none of my family does either, does anyone any ways of lowering this? I will have more information about what all they are insuring me over when I get off work in a few hours.

Sure put it in your parents name. But no, shop around, be carefull! Need them if you need them!

Have them buy a scrap vehicle use that title and say that is your primary vehicle, don't insure it, you pay them the added cost. A month.

No, I would never do such a thing. 2,520 a year really? Buy a cheaper vehicle that needs no loan or only liability.

The cost of youth and vigor, There is normally a wreck or two in the stars for newer drivers, and no history of good driving, lots of factors figure into the cost of insurance at any age, shop around my friend, Chesters makes a good point, cash and you can get by with minimal coverage, which cost less, you just have to look at your options.

I think I paid around 90/month when I was 16 with a truck with state farm. It was under my parents insurance. The more stuff on the policy, house, cars etc helps. I think I still only pay 60/ month on my truck with full coverage with state farm. My family (starting with my parents) we have been with state farm for probably around 40 years and I can say nothing but good things about my experience with them.

You will get screwed on cost until you are about 25 years old (or 9 years exp) if I remember right.

I keep hearing that and was all excited for that drop when I turned 25. Unfortunately I never saw it. I am now 36 with no tickets (Never had a moving violation) or accidents ( that were my fault) yet I have only seen yearly decreases in my premium due to my vehicle aging and losing value. I do live in Michigan though which apparently has the highest rates in the country.

When I was younger the insurance rate for my 95 was ridiculous. It was new and I was 17. I had to put it in my parents name and they added me as a rider on their policy. That is the only way I could insure the truck. Having my 60 year old mom's name on my truck cut the rate to 1/4 of the cost they quoted me.

Get online quotes through Geico and Progressive etc. But I , like the others, like a local person that I can personally deal with , hopefully I will never have too. I've also heard good things about All State. Try all of the online quotes- All State, State Farm ,Alfa, Geico ,Progressive, Farmers , Nationwide, The General ( which gave me a ridiculous quote ). Just keep in mind, some of these televised companies may not have a local office for if you unfortunately have a personal claim.
