I'm 21 just starting out my mechanic career, and I have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado z71 4x4 with the 5.3l that either needs a new frame or to repair the old frame. Now with that said i am looking at at a 2000 Silverado that's only a 2wd but other than that its the same dimensions engine and everything as my original truck would it be possible to convert the 2wd frame into a 4wd and do the frame swap like that. I would just buy the right frame at a junkyard but as far as i know California has some stupid laws prohibiting it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do, get this 2wd frame and start the conversion or just wait for a 4wd to be parted out near me or just pay to have this frame pulled but a few shops I've talked to say the damage is a little to extensive? Thank you for your help.

because your in cali then the state government will kill your 2000 silverado. I own my 2000 LT 4X4 since april 2000..
I had to replace the cross over rail that holds up the gas tank rear.. lucky for me I only paid $400 FOR THE FIX and the body shop in the rust belt did this several times . Obama did KILL the old truck frame replacements because of the climate change .. take time to find a frame in Nevada / Arizona .. other states..rare to see my 2000 silverado in the cold north east.. saw many in the carolinas ..

being a member in the Impala SS B body 1994-1996 forums cali emissions tests increased the levels when then fail . then the state will KILL the Impalas .. residents in cali are leaving , very expense place to live.
