This forum is great . Just bought a 94 suburban k1500 4x4 with 172000 on here runs great drive smooth last night. Needs little things here and there but the big one is the short (drivers side front 1/2 axle) where it bolts to the front dif is leaking. also if you give a jerk to the output shaft/flange coming out of the diff it is loose. the book does not really say much on this. can any one help? sorry if there are post about this that I did not read yet.

The seal needs to be replaced at the least.You need to consult the manual on the play, I'm not sure about the allowable amount.

The only thing that holds that stub shaft in is a circlip. It may need replaced when you replace the seal. You may also need to grind a small flat spot on the stub in order for it to clear the frame. Your other option is to remove the mount bolts from the housing and lower the differential. If you do grind it, i would do it between the bolt holes for the axle shaft, and it only usually needs to be about an 1/8th inch flat spot. If there is up and down movement the bearing most likely needs replaced and this will require complete removal and dissassembly of the fron t diff.

picked up my parts today bearing at gm dealer 20 dollars seal at napa for 4 dollars. The 94's are great the half axles unbolt from the diff allowing the diff to drop down to get the axle stub out of the diff replace the needle bearing and seal and mount the diff in then bolt the axles back to the diff. I do not have to bother with the ball joints do not have to remove the half axles and I do not have to grind anything. I will till you how it goes monday. I am preety confident in my research.
