A couple of years ago, I had the same problem and It was the leak I described above, it would wet the top of the tank and maybe start to wash over the side of the tank; but never reached the point of dripping.
Mine started in the winter and I waited for warmer weather to drop the tank and fix it, so you should be fine. But, of course, all leaks are not the same and it depends upon the flow rate. If the leak gets big enough the engine will quit.
Mine was just a very small rust pin hole.
