grinding noise from rear of Burb

I've noticed over several days grinding noise from the rear of my 2003 'burb. I've noticed it when driving from a full stop and today I noticed the same noise when making several right turns. I took the Burb to the shop but the source of the noise was not found. A friend of mine told me it could be my U-Joints but he's not quite sure since the noise never occurs when I do have people riding with me in the vehicle that could help. Can anyone that might have experienced something similar please offer some help.

Thanks,
Ebunoye

Check the brakes

The common reason for a grinding noise would be the rear brakes. The shop should have been able to identify that. When was the last time the rear brakes were serviced?
