If you have any connection with the US Military by marriage, birth, adoption ect, then you need to see if you are eligible to join. I have been a member since I was an ROTC cadet in college - over 25 years ago. They insure everything I own. Their banking services were used to purchase 2 vehicles and refinance my homes. I also have my checking account with them, a master card and used their buying service to purchase some nice jewelry for my wife. While my "local" bank treats me like I am street trash, USAA goes above and beyond. I am in the process of cutting all my ties with the local banking community and use USAA exclusively. They are Local no matter where you are!

My wife and I have been with USAA for about 9 years now and we will never switch to any other company. We were stationed in Florida for about a little over 8 years and they treated us well during a couple of hurricanes.

I had USAA until I found better rates on insurance. They are still a good company though, I have always heard good things about them

I guess I have a hard time getting over things, about 6 years ago after I retired from the Navy a friend recommended I try them for auto Ins..
When I contacted them on-line they basically told me thanks but no thanks you dont qualify with us, my first reaction was WTF, I'm retired Military, I have a spotless driving record, and perfect credit, how could I not qualify with a company that advertises their whole purpose is to insure Military members, military retiree's, and their familys?
When I talked to them on the phone all was explained to me, their rule was if you were Active Duty you could be any age to join and keep your insurance after retirement but if you were retired you had to be under 40 yrs old, now how many 39yr old or younger retiree's do you know? Probably not many.
Since then they've changed their eligibility requirements but it doesnt matter in my oppinion they did a terrible disservice and blatant false advertisement to many Military members prior to changing their criteria and they never once felt they even owed an apology to any of them and for that reason I have a large issue with this particular company and they'll never make a penny off of me.

Not really sure, I have not compared rates on over 20 years. In part because my rates seem pretty low to me.

I called Geico a few years ago just to see how their rates were compared to USAA. The dollar amounts were the same that I told them I wanted for my coverage. the lady from Geico was proud of what she quoted me. I thanked her for her time and told her I pay less than that know by almost $200 for a six month period. She than asked who my current insurance company was, so I told her. She said that they could not compete with USAA. I haven't looked since than. Most other insurance companies raise their rates. I can't remember the last time they raised their rates. As a matter of fact I get a check back every year usually around $150 at the end of the year.

Old thread, but I've been a USAA member since 2003 when I joined the Army. I've had several reuptable insurance company agents begin talking to me about switching and quickly end the conversation when they find out I'm with USAA. I'll never go to another bank and have no interest in looking for another Insurance company.

I agree they always take care of you. They had a flat bed ready to pick up my truck within a half hour of calling them when tahoe blew its tempature control valve last summer. the tow driver was super nice and even helped us out since we ended up down a car. Also the shop they sent us to had the truck ready by the next morning the people worked overtime just to get the truck fixed.
