Just the opposite. When it comes to performance, the Hypertech is one of the least aggressive handheld tuners for your vehicle. They're specifically designed for stock to near-stock vehicles.
In fact, if you did have any extensive mods beyond the basics, such as cat-back exhaust/intake, that's when the handheld wouldn't be the best route and you'd really want to look into a custom tune.
Of course, you can go with a custom tune with a stock vehicle and still get much better performance than a handheld. But for mileage, I know at least one other user on here has tested the Hypertech and got a noticable increase in MPG.
