No your 2009" Silverado does Not have inline Fuel Filter....G/M/Chevy starting with the 2004" Models, Move the Filter into the Fuel Tank, and it is part of the Fuel Pump Assembly, G.M. said it is non-serviceable.....and G.M. it is good for 100,000 miles.

would it be recommended to add an aftermarket filter in the engine compartment, or does the OEM one suffice?

I don't know of anyone that added a aftermarket inline fuel filter.....and with those that do have the Fuel filter in the tank......once again I have not heard of guys having problems with the fuel filter in the tank......

Below is article that goes into detail on why G/M....moved the Fuel filter into the Tank.....the Reason is due the....Returnless Fuel injection Systems,

Thanks for the great info.
Seems a little short sited of GM to think that all gas is clean, and the filter is not accessible, but oh well.
