hi everyone - not new to forums, but new to this one. lifetime chevy owner and recently purchased a 2011 texas edition silverado extended cab. looking forward to all of the great questions and answers that you typically find on forums like these.

i'll try and keep my question brief. i recently upgraded the audio system in my silverado. i retained the factory head unit, but installed an alpine amp, 10" sub, and front and rear focal speakers. the problem i'm having now is the turn signals are now annoyingly loud. it's my understanding this is due to the sound of the turn signals being routed through the radio to the front speakers - now that the radio is amped, the sound of the turn signals is amped as well. i've been told the only way to "fix" the problem is with an after market head unit. anybody else have this problem or know of a solution?

I am afraid you might only have you only have 2 choices. The blinker sounds, seat belt chimes, etc...all play through the OEM radio via the OnStar module.

You could disconnect the OnStar module which I think is located behind the lower dash panel below the AC controls. Otherwise its installing a aftermarket Headunit, however, to retain the Onstar and your sounds you also need to purchase an adapter which is probably another $100.00 or so.

I installed an aftermarket headunit but I didnt get the OnStar adapter so I cant hear the turn signal clicker or that annoying chime telling me to wear my seatbelt.

I can live with out those other noises.....its just up to you on how you want your truck set up.

does it also make your on-star unuseable? or does the hands free calling and such still work?

thats kinda weak... though I really only use it for the hands free calling.. which a new head unit could take care of.. Thanks for the info though, sorry to jump in on a thread.

thanks for the replies - that helps. i've been seriously thinking about a new head unit anyways. i'm pretty disappointed with the back up picture i get in the rear view mirror so i'll probably go the whole nine yards and get a unit that has dvd and navigation as well. any suggestions?

98hotrod - you said "it" killed the onstar on your truck. what was "it"?

and on another note, i just realized i did not get my monthly onstar diagnostics email for july. is this a related issue?
