i just picked up on a 2008 silverado 5.3L how can i get the most efficient hp gain for around $1500 any suggestions?
brands would be helpful along with how the product works

Congrats on the new truck! I don't know any specifics, but the most productive investment would probably be a custom tune, you could go with a hypertech programmer or a wait4me tune.

Along with that, there is always the option for CAI which I have heard good things about Volant or K&N.

Or you could consider exhaust which I am not sure of which one gives the most ponies but make sure you buy stainless, due to you will never have to install another exhaust on the truck again.

You can look at long tube headers which in my opinion is probably the best investment for power. Haven't really looked at headers before because I have a v6 so not much will happen if I install them.

Welcome to the site! Exhaust, a Cold Air Intake, and a Programmer would be your best bet for a performance and mileage increase for your price-range.

I was also looking to increase HP and fuel economy.

After reading a bunch of posts on here and other sites it looks like the this is the best route.

I was taking a look at getting the:
Hypertech Max Energy Programmer

I'm going with this because it also allows me to set my speedometer with my new wheels I plan to get.

But I'm up in the air when it comes to the air filter. I've been looking at the following company. Keep in mind gas economy is my first priority and HP off the line is my second.

Air Raid
Volant
AFE

Could I get feedback on which one people think I should go with?

Also would I notice a difference in power and fuel economy by adding an exaust out the back?

Congrads on making the switch to the truck world, espically it being with a Surburban.

The easiest way to make great HP and performance for the GM Trucks would be;

Cold Air Intake
Headers
Cat Back Exhaust System
Programmer

It really doesnt matter what brands, but you have to watch out because other brands offer what others dont. Between Hypertech and Superchips, I'd go with the Superchips just because it offers more mods for the computer to gain better performance.

Cold Air Intake you'd find that K&N is usually the most durable out of the bunch that you named off, but you also realize that K&N is a oil based and typically after awhile you'll have to replace the mass air flow sensor, because some of the oil that comes off the filter gets on the fine wires of the sensor. I believe AFE makes the dry filter kits, I'll check into that for you....

Will all 4 combined you will definitally notice a difference in performance and power. If you have any questions feel free to message me at [email protected]

one of the best programmers out there and watch out for the intake. you want to make sure you get an oil less or "dry" filter if you use the oiled ones it can screw up your mass airflow sensor.

Congratulations on the new truck!
Do you want to keep your new truck warranty? Read the fine print to see what happens if you add performance components. Aren't there some dealer installed options (performance intake and cat back) that will keep you in good standings with the folks at Chevy. Also, you didn't mention your location -- are you subject to smog inspections?
A wait4me tune seems to offer a lot for the price and the ability to easily return to stock should you need warranty service.

Here's my .02

CAI, either AFE or Volant for True CAI and filters that do not use oil, and oiled filter will void your warranty.

Exhaust, Headers, LT's or none. 2 1/2 or 3" pipe two into one at the cat and single cat to tail.

Tunes, I know alot of guys like the handhelds, and I respect that, but if you want a real custom tune go with Nelson Performance, Wait for me or Wheatley. Nelsons tunes are $375 with free retunes for life.
