Just wanted to share a few pics from our trip to the Big Apple this weekend, (8/6/11) This was our second trip to NYC, we had taken our two boys there five or six years ago, so we decided to take our youngest daughter, Rachel, to see the sights! We drove up on Friday morning and got to our hotel at around two in the afternoon, about a four hour drive. We stayed in New Jersey at the Hilton in Hackensack, it was cheap, rated four stars and was in a pretty decent nieghborhood. We then drove over to Liberty Island State Park to pay a visit to Lady Liberty. If you haven't seen the statue in person, then I highly recommend it. Saturday we parked in the Liberty Island State Park again ($10 for a safe place to leave the truck!) and caught the http://libertylandingferry.com/ to ride over to Manhattan, the ferry docks at the World Financial Center, to visit Ground Zero. The WTC site has changed a lot since our last visit as it is under heavy construction. The memorial and new tower are well under way but the site is hidden from view by construction barriers. Then we caught a cab uptown to Times Square, if you've never ridden in a New York Taxi it's quite a rush! I don't know how people drive in the city. Hung out in Times Square then walked down to Rockerfeller Plaza to see it, after that it was time to head back downtown, another wicked cab ride and back over to NJ. I'd wanted to go up the Empire State Building but time was short, the last ferry was 7:45 and we didn't want to push it. All in all a busy but fun 2 day trip.
Staying in NJ and using the Ferry to get to Manhattan worked out really well for us, easy to get to and safe parking for the truck ( really important to me!) and that is the way we'll do it next time, which will probably when the WTC site is finished. We are planning on re-visiting the Flight 93 memorial next month, the first phase of the permanent memorial is scheduled to open on 9/11/11
