I have a 2000 s10 4.3 v6 the oil pressure is at 40 when I start it up and will stay there till it warms up then it drops to 30 and under. The gage won't flicker or jump around. Does that sound like the sensor is bad or oil pump?

Thick oil is harder to push, resulting in higher pressure, as the oil warms it thins and pushes easier, resulting lower pressure.

I would guess it's quite probable the tolerances in your engine bearings are still like new.
40 psi is excellent; and there's practically no danger for the engine until pressure starts dropping below 10 psi.

25 psi hot idle is OK Seems like they were rated for 38 psi at 2000 rpm. Slightly off idle 1000 to 1200 does it hit 35 psi or so.?
