"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the fuel pump module, which is located in the tank, could be exposed to air and cause corrosion and leaks. NHTSA has 16 cases reported from owners who state they have been smelling gas and saw fuel dripping from the gas tank.

About 800,000 vehicles may be affected, states the NHTSA. GM is working to repair these vehicles and is fully cooperating with the U.S. safety agency. As one of the largest automakers in the U.S., General Motors sold more than 418,000 Trailblazers and Envoy in 2003, both becoming GM's strongest-selling SUV line."

Just to further this recall. I called 2 Dealerships and none have this posted yet, but they do say it is usual practice to release to media first. Then come up with proper fix procedures then issues service bulletin. So I will keep up on this and repost for 2003 TB guys here.

I'm not sure if 2002 TB's are involved Steve but I'll follow up. Did I make your heart stop..:he:

No gas smells. Usually the only bad smell in the TB is when the boy throws a milk cup under the seat and we don't find it for a couple of days.

Until you get a recall notice the dealer will do nothing, mainly because they don't have a fix yet. Until they get a fix they will not send out recall notices.

Makes sense to me, that way when you get the recall notice you call the dealer and make an appt. to get it fixed.

Otherwise you have 10,000 people showing up to get their truck or car fixed all at once. They go by vehicle registrations, so if it's registered you will get the notice as soon as it is available.

About a month ago my wife's 2001 Suburban started to miss-fire and was running rough. I tried changing plugs and wires after a friend helped me to read the codes but after that did not fix it, it was off to the dealer. The dealer said one of the codes was a fuel delivery code and with our year and model, and a recall, they dropped the tank and put a new fuel pump in it (we were told a $900 job if we had to have it done without the recall) and then a bad coil was the culprit for the miss-fires. Runs great now and wife is not threatening to make me drive it instead of my 2006 Silverado :he:

Hello. I'm new here but the alleged recal will affect mostly Trailblazer and Envoy extended versions. You usually get the gas smell even if the gas cap is closed tightly. I've had my tank and stuff changed out about 2 months ago. The only way they will change it out is if you have a service engine light on and have a fuel/emission code stored. The way I got mine done was when the light came on, I called Onstar and told them about the gas smell. I had them run a test and they recorded the code in their records. I later called GMC to which they claim "no recall" in the works. When I stated my safety concerns with my 03 Envoy xl, they made an appointment with a dealership. The dealership noticed 2 leaking areas: 1 by the the filler neck and 1 by the fuel pump area. It took 1 week for the tank to get in but I'm happy and running! GM will never make a real "recall" because then they would have to pay for rental cars and such while the "un-safe" vehicles are in their shop.:rofl:

Chevy has already notified me of the recall about two months ago!! They will re-imburse you if you have already had something done and fix it if there is a problem.:great:

Yes, they will re-imburse you if yoy have the tank and stuff changed. The only problem is that you have to prove alot of thing and start a rucuss before they pay you. That is what a dealership told me. That is why I made them change it for me. I hate waiting for my money:gasp::rules:
