my 2002 suburban 93k miles has very quick almost darting steering. It also seems to have a hitch in the steeering. Driving if I trun the wheel to the left there is a hitch of 1/8 to 1/4 inch in the steering wheel- it then release and the vehcile darts. My front end mechanic cannot find the problem. Any thoughts.

thanks

Hey Chuck, welcome to the site!

If I remember correctly some of those Suburbans had a problem with the u-joint in the steering shaft that would cause a problem like what you are describing. Might check that out.

Is the problem only in one direction? If so it may be in the variable ratio steering assy, it is electrically controlled. I had a similar issue that thankfully turned out to be a bad connection.
