Here in MN it is hard to find just a plain jane 80s 4x4 pickup that isnt rusted to hell and that isnt overpriced. We need something to just haul some junk, wood and for getting landscaping supplies. So im curious as to what a 4x4 S10 can truly haul for rock. It wouldnt be alot of rock just enough to bring in new rock for an average size home. Im looking at early 2000s ZR2 ext-cabs, can their springs and boxes really handle it??

Around here-New Orleans metro-
I see plenty of over loaded S10's-
Some are doing landscaping-grass cutters(8 months a year here) who will haul heavier "stuff" like paving stones(usually concrete-but occasionally actual stone)-
Pretty sure I have seen them with at least 1200 lbs in the bed-maybe more-
Easy enough to put booster springs in

But another idea-Texas is pickup SUV Central-so is louisiana--
why not shop online for a "not rust bucket"-only about 1200 miles I think- 24 hours via interstate-and with $1.89 gas??
Granted Texas doesn't have as high a percentage of 4X4's but they have PLENTY of 4x4's
For a plane ticket+ 24 hours and maybe $250 in gas- you could get a completely rust free 1/2 ton

Oh-I once bought a Chevy Prism on Ebay from New Jersey -a 2001 in 2003-just 2 years in service 13,000 miles--
when it arrived every fastener and all the aluminum was corroded-
all the painted steel(unscratched) was just fine(plating steel-fasteners- didn't work as well as paint -as long as the paint was unscratched)
Yeah road salt is horrendous-
(oh it was a great little car) but if it had been there 10 years-it would have been scrap

Anyway folks regularly over load the S-10's-
My neighbor towed his 4500 lb boat-with 30 gallons of fuel in the bed-+200-300 lbs of ice chest ice+ 600 lbs of adults-in the cab

I dont have a place to put a trailer at my house, nor do I have the means to fix a pickup trailer should a weld break or it needs reinforcing

I have an s10. V6 5 speed and i have a side landscape business. I tow a 500lb trailer with a commercial walkbehind mower which i believe weights 7-800lbs and a small push mower. In the bed i have the bblower, weedwacker. Pulls fine no problem.

I have hauled 900 lbs of stone in the bed one time and thats the last time ill ever do that. That was way too much.

These will tow a good amount but if you are doing a lot and heavy then get a full size.
