Help
How do you remove the air box from a 1998 Suburban?
I have a leaky hose or leaky HEATER hose T- fitting under it-have to remove it to replace whatever is leaking

There are 3 piece of crap looking plastic rubber fittings inside the airbox
two pointy rubber nipple things-and one plastic weird looking cap that might screw on
Haynes manual not helpful-says something about removing from wheel well
don't really see anything helpful in wheel well
and I suspect if I remove that wheels well curtain-it will tear-and i suspect there isn't any access there either
And I don't see exactly how to remove the plastic snorkel that the air box is attached to-not the one to the Fuel injector-the one downstream before the filter
Looks like it might twist off? The other snorkel -to FI- just lifts off?
Thanks
Charlie

PS-There IS a bolt in wheel well-so grungy it was hard to see
Take it out-slide the air box medially- off it comes
Now the crummy POS AutoZone Y-fitting-replaced 15 months ago-was cracked AGAIN!!
Real pain with those crummy hose clamps-
I'll see if I can get a fitting from Chevy-might get stuck with Auto Zone again-since i NEED IT RUNNING TOMORROW

Would this help? http://www.knfilters.com/instructions/57-3013-2_inst.pdf I, too, had a leaky heater hose connection, looked like a "Y", was made of plastic. The replacement part from GM is plastic, so didn't want to do it again, so a trip to the hardware store and made a reasonable facsimile out of brass, and it should last a lifetime now.

Thanks-nice pictures-very clear.
I ended up having to take that 13 mm bolt off- before I could get the lower part of the air box off
It wouldn't just slide off until I pulled the bolt

I ended up pay $16 for a plastic part from the chevy dealer
You are right-it isn't impressive looking-
maybe I will hunt for a brass Y- fitting
Unfortunately the ID OD OF the male fittings aren't all the same-so the brass fitting might be a bit tricky to find
You actually found one with the correct sized ODs?
Thanks

Charlie;
I didn't find "one" piece to replace the "Y", I basically changed it to a "T". It took about 3 or 4 pieces of brass (I can't remember off the top of head) I just rummaged through the brass section till I got something together that would work. Looks kinda funky, but it does work, and has not leaked a drop since. After going out and looking at mine, it is one piece and it's a "T". See the attached picture. You might want to take a piece of hose with you. It was a TIGHT fit.

Thanks
That is a good idea
don't really feel like changing that every 12 months or so
dinky plastic-heated cooled zillion times with hose clamps on it
no surprise it cracks
Thanks-I'll hunt up a T- fitting like that
