Hey guys my name is Kev and I have a question about changing my motor.. If someone can help me I'd appreciate at. I have a 97 Silverado 4x4 that I need to put a motor in it has the 5.7l vortec. I've been told the only thing that will interchange with my truck is a motor from another silverado from 96-2000 and the eight Vin digit has to be a R. Does anyone know that for a fact or will anything fit as long as its out of a 4x4 and between 96-99 fit including one out of a 96 suburban? Thanks in advance.

Any GM 350 engine should fit just fine. Even a motor from 89-99 will work (Will need to swap some things over from orginal, intake/heads, ect if you use a block prior to 96). It may be best to use the ECM from whatever engine your getting to use in the vehicle it's going in, along with the wiring harness so everything matches up. Generally theres a few smal things here and there that you will have to swap from your old engine to your new one but nothing hard. It alo doesn't matter if it came from a 4wd or a 2wd vehicle.

Your best bet is to use a motor from the 96-99 years and if you have to swap all your intake/fuel components onto the new block from the original one. The "R" generally means that it's a 350 truck engine setup rather than a car.

I think if you use a donor 2wd motor you would want to stick with your 4wd ECM and harness?
Guys correct me if I'm wrong here please.
