I have a 2004 Sierra SLT 2500 6.0 w/ 46,000 miles. Can I get my truck to run on less cylinders on the highway and get better mileage? The truck CAN do it as the dealer explained on a total loss of coolant the engine will run on 4 cylinders alternating between ones running/not as they get hot. This can be used to get out of say the woods or trouble if the radiator was punctured. So the truck can do it and if the coolant system is functional it should work even better. Also other GM products have a selector to do this including the newer trucks.

How can I get my truck to do this when I want better mileage?

Thanks in Advance,

I'm not exactly sure how you would do it but it doesn't sound very safe. Why not just get a programmer and an intake and get better MPG all the time. It will probly cost alot less too.
