I've owned vehicles in the past that have had shift-kits in them, mostly to help with towing. I don't have a clue as to the best make/model and that sort of thing. How heavy do you tow or are you likely to tow?
Shift Kit for a 700R4 Tranny
Well, I figured, since the new tranny's not in the truck, this would be the perfect time for me to just bite the bullet and finally put the shift kit in the truck. Now, I've never touched a transmission before, so I have no clue what I'm dealing with. Until recently, (ie sitting in the hotel room in Sweetwater watching a program on installing a shift kit in a turbo 350 tranny) I didn't even know that auto trannys don't have any physical linkage going through them. I have seen shift kits that are optimized for towing/RV use. What shift kit would be best for an old Suburban to give better shifts for towing and low end? Are there any other worthwhile modifications that can/should be done while the tranny's out? Also, how hard would putting a shift kit be for someone who's never opened up a transmission before? Should I bring it to a transmission shop to get it installed or what? Thanks...
